Use cases / MCP tool-using agents

Give agents powerful tools with clear boundaries.

Govern MCP tools at the operation level, scope capability deliberately, and review tool changes before they become silent new authority.

One governed route

Every call takes a decided path.

The Agent calls its Aethis MCP endpoint. Aethis checks the tool is in the Agent's scope, reads the arguments against policy, and only then forwards, holds or blocks the call.

Why Aethis

Govern capability at the point of use.

MCP lowers the cost of connecting an agent to databases, services, and internal systems. One server can expose dozens of operations, and those operations rarely carry equal consequence.

Visible capability drift

Review a changed tool definition before the governed Connection resumes.

Explicit assignment

Assign only the Connections an agent needs, then use policy to compute its effective access to operations.

Operation-level policy

Treat read, write, export, delete, and other consequential calls according to what they do.

One endpoint per Agent

Point any MCP-compatible agent at its own Aethis URL. Scope, policy and evidence come with it.

Where teams start

Connection is easy. Capability is the real question.

Server review

Start with an approved route and an inspectable catalogue.

The server stays where it is; Aethis governs the route to it.

Effective tool access

Give different agents different scopes on the same server.

Illustrative: one agent can search orders; another can also propose a refund.

Meaningful policy

Judge the operation and its arguments, not the tool name alone.

Illustrative: allow a display-name update; hold an ownership change.

Capability change review

Notice when yesterday’s connection becomes more powerful.

A newly added destructive operation does not enter the governed path silently.
